His prize consists of a two kilo hamper of traditional British fare, including meat pies to share with his unit and the more personal gift of a watch from his wife. Getting this surprise hamper from home was great. Afghanistan’s a long way from England and home, but E-Bluey means we can stay in touch with our friends and family on a day-to-day basis.
The system is very popular with both the Armed Forces and their families, as it allows them to communicate in a matter of hours, no matter where in the world they are. We are very proud of the system which cuts out the hassle of stamps, trips to the post office and slow international mail. Traditional mail can take over a week to get to a soldier in the field, E-Bluey can get there in hours and it’s free.

British-based Lex Defence, will supply the RAF with its ‘white fleet’ of vehicles on an ongoing hire basis until 2011. In total the extended contract will now cover over 12, 500 non-combat vehicles and is worth up to £600 million. Lex Defence, building on its existing strong arrangement with the DLO, was able to deliver a solution that met our requirements in a cost-effective way.
Working together we believe that we can enhance the service we provide across the MoD, bringing benefits to both sides. Lex Defence are already contracted to offer white fleet support to the Armed Forces and other MoD customers in Britain. With this addition to the contract, the British firm will now supply a total of over 12,500 non-combat vehicles to MoD. Covered by the contract are a wide range of white fleet vehicles, from staff cars and motorbikes to coaches and trailers, which have been built specifically for military uses.
